(from artist's site) - Jeff Wahl raised on a farm on the eastern plains of Colorado. It was a great way to grow up, amazing. From as early as I can remember, I wanted to play the guitar, but it seemed so beyond me. When I was about seven, I received a small, child's size guitar as a gift for Christmas. It was great except that on one of my first attempts at playing it, a string popped off and hit me in the eye. I decided not to play guitar again for a long while after that incident. I took piano lessons but didn't do too well and I quit pretty soon. I then played the trombone in the school band. The trombone was a lot of fun but I could never really express myself on it.
When I was about twelve, I picked up the guitar again. It was really difficult. I learned four chords; C, A minor, G, and F. They weren't too bad except for that F chord. That was impossible for me. That's the first chord on the guitar where you have to hold down two strings at once with one finger. I had an old acoustic guitar with really high action and I just couldn't do it. I struggled for months with that one chord. Eventually, I decided it was just impossible. I switched to playing electric bass instead. The bass was great. I got really into that instrument and started to play it in the school jazz band. A few months later, just out of boredom, I picked up the guitar again. After all that time playing the bass, with those big strings, my fingers had become pretty strong. This time, when I picked up the guitar, it was easy. I could finally play the F chord! After that, the guitar was pretty easy for me. If you're just learning, that's the strange thing about the guitar. It's really, really difficult for the first maybe six months or so. But then, it just becomes really easy and it just keeps getting easier.

Jazz guitarist ranks as true area treasure
by Jim Toner, Orlando Sentinel, November 27, 2005
Rich Walker is an Orlando original. It is that dang guitar. He discovered it as a kid, and he has never been able to put the thing down. It has defined his life.
Orlando has benefited. For jazz lovers, Rich is a hometown hero. For about 30 years, he has delivered live a type of sound you could find only on a compact disc.
Despite his talent, his gigs are spotty. There's lots of entertainment in the world's biggest playground. The noisy atmosphere can drown out the jazz, a great American art form that doesn't get its due. Clubs are quick to change groups while chasing the latest musical whim.
Clubs devoted to jazz come and go, making it a struggle for Walker to earn a living at something he does better than most. He also has a sextet, but it is even tougher to find a gig for a large group.

Manouche Guitars are built from the plans of the original Selmer guitars built in France in the 1930’s. The picture of the band above was taken at a performance by the HCPhilly at the World Cafe Live, Feb 8, 2008 in Phila. The Clarinet player is Bob Butryn. In addition to playing great clarinet and sax, Bob is a terrific swing dancer. He also teaches and performs swing dance.

Guitarist Pete Weise has had the opportunity to demonstrate his diverse performing, composing, arranging, and teaching abilities nation-wide. Weise received his B.M. in Jazz Performance in 1997 and his M.M. in Jazz Performance in 2005 from the University of North Texas and is currently a private instructor at Schaelling Music Studios in Highland Village, TX and at the Fine Arts Academy at the First Baptist Church in Keller, TX. Born and raised in Upstate New York, Weise’s original academic pursuits led him to earning a B.A. in Mathematics from Potsdam College of the State University of New York in 1990. Fortunately, he discovered Potsdam’s Crane School of Music which provided him with outlets to further develop his musical skills. After graduating from Potsdam, Weise sought out the full time study of music at the nationally-acclaimed jazz studies program at UNT.

(from artist's site) - I believe that music is one of the most fundamentally profound and beautiful manifestations of existence that human beings experience. It unites those who speak different languages and bridges vast divides between people instantaneously like no other mechanism. In studying music from early in the Western Music tradition such as Renaissance and Baroque composers I have learned that much of what comprises our harmonic and melodic vocabulary and experience was extant long ago. In learning about jazz music, thereby studying music with elements OUTSIDE the Western musical tradition (mainly rhythmic complexity and subtlety) I began to understand how the conglomeration of cultures from the East with the West during the twentieth century has led to manners of performance that are revolutionary when compared to previous musical practices of any culture.
I believe it is the duty of those who call themselves musicians to strive for the highest levels of creativity and to be prescient stewards of a diverse musical landscape, aware that simply replicating music from the past causes stagnation and also predisposes audiences to be indifferent to live versus pre-recorded performances. The purpose of studying music from the past is to create new and exciting music in the future and to foster audiences that can appreciate artistry and new compostition.

(from artist's site) - Armed with an encyclopedic knowledge of standards and an empathetic musical soul, the music flows from Jon Wheatley’s guitar in chord melody and single note improvisations that convey the history and emotional richness of the American songbook through jazz harmony. Hearing Jon play the standards, modulating through keys, building through chord melodies and subtly quoting other tunes during his improvisations can have an intoxicating effect on the listener.
Jon is one of Boston’s busiest guitarists, and his resume as sideman is dense. With a career spanning thirty-three years, he’s played with a number of famous players, including Scott Hamilton, Ruby Braff, Alan Dawson, Teddy Kotick, Diana Krall, Mike Metheny, Karyn Allison, “Sweets” Edison, Urbie Green, Joe Wilder, Benny Waters, Dick Hyman, Donna Byrne, Marshall Wood, Daryl Sherman, Ken Peplowski and Randy Sandke to name a few, and all have benefited from his masterful playing.

Broadway show credits include “Showboat”, “Chicago”, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Fosse” and The Who’s “Tommy”. He has performed with jazz artists such as Clark Terry, Joe Williams, Bill Watrous, Tom Harrell and Arnett Cobb. He has also backed pop artists such as Willie Nelson, Charlie Pride, Andy Williams, Larry Gatlin, Robert Goulet, Engelbert Humperdink, Bob Hope and John Denver. In the Fall of 2000 he recorded and arranged a CD of popular standards with Merle Haggard. His first CD, entitled "Indian Summer", (which was produced by Willie Nelson) and his new CD "The Mike Wheeler Trio" spotlight his guitar style. (from artist's site) - Stephane Wrembel was born in Paris, France, on a snowy night, February 27, 1974. Soon after, my parents moved to a cute little town, Chartrettes, and then a few miles further, to Fontainebleau. I started classical piano at the age of 4, following my mumís path. I took private lessons for 12 years.
At home, we grew up with mainly 70ís rock, my parents were big fans of Pink Floyd, the Police, The Rolling Stones, Carlos SantanaÖ70ís Rock is the soundtrack of my childhood. My favorite band of all time was and still is Pink Floyd. I donít think anybody reached my soul deeper than they did.
My craving for playing the guitar started at 15, after seeing my Uncle playing the blues on his old Fender Stratocaster (he is still one of the most beautiful and sensitive player Iíve ever heard). He went with me to buy my first guitar, taught me a few things. Having some piano background definitely was a great help in terms of understanding the fingerboard, and moving the fingers.

(from artist's site) - Originally from a small town in western Pennsylvania, Anson Wright moved to New York City after graduating from Princeton University. In New York he composed and performed original music for acoustic guitar. Since moving to Oregon, Anson has turned his focus to jazz, and he has performed throughout the United States. He has taught at numerous schools including New York University, Pacific University, and Portland Community College. Anson is an endorsing artist for Hofner guitars.
Anson Wright is one of the small number of jazz artists who have received critical acclaim as writers as well as musicians. Author Anais Nin praised the writing in his novel, Jericho, calling it "bottom of the sea level." The National Endowment for the Arts provided the funding for his second book, Openings. Anson's first full-length poetry book, Sandstone Monastery, was released in December of 2004
