(from artist's site) - Jeff Wahl raised on a farm on the eastern plains of Colorado. It was a great way to grow up, amazing. From as early as I can remember, I wanted to play the guitar, but it seemed so beyond me. When I was about seven, I received a small, child's size guitar as a gift for Christmas. It was great except that on one of my first attempts at playing it, a string popped off and hit me in the eye. I decided not to play guitar again for a long while after that incident. I took piano lessons but didn't do too well and I quit pretty soon. I then played the trombone in the school band. The trombone was a lot of fun but I could never really express myself on it.

(from artist's site) - Ulf Wakenius has since 1997 held what may be the most prestigious spot in jazz for a guitarist-membership in the legendary Oscar Peterson Quartet. His predecessors have been such greats as Barney Kessel, Herb Ellis, and Joe Pass. He has performed at such classic jazz venues as Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, the Blue Notes, and recently played sold out shows with Oscar Peterson at the Royal Albert Hall, Chicago Symphony Hall, Palais Des Congres, Wiener Konzerthaus, Massey Hall, Teatro Colon-Buenos Aires, Stravinski Hall-Montreaux and Tokyo International Forum Hall.

(from artist's site) - Steve Walker studied Music and English at Duke University, and went on to music studies at Kutztown State University. He learned Lutherie (stringed instrument building and repair) at the Vermont Instrument Workshop. Steve has been employed as a guitarmaker by C.F. Martin and was head of the Lutherie department at the National Guitar Workshop, where he taught a master class in guitar repair. He has been teaching music for over twenty five years and has taught for Owen J. Roberts and Upper Perkiomen School District and at many area music stores, including Freds Music Shop and Georges Music. Steve now teaches full time at Hex Hollow Music.

(from artist's site) - The Hot Club of Philadelphia was started at the end of 2001 by guitarist Barry Warhoftig, and violinist Mark Campiglia. We are an acoustic jazz quartet, dedicated to playing and preserving the music of Django Reinhardt Django, adding our own style to the process.
The quartet includes Jim Stager on acoustic bass and Rich Yescalis on rhythm guitar. Barry plays a Manouche Modele Jazz, 14 fret oval hole guitar. Manouche Guitars are built from the plans of the original Selmer guitars built in France in the 1930’s. The picture of the band above was taken at a performance by the HCPhilly at the World Cafe Live, Feb 8, 2008 in Phila. The Clarinet player is Bob Butryn. In addition to playing great clarinet and sax, Bob is a terrific swing dancer. He also teaches and performs swing dance.

(from University of Texas web site) - Curt Warren is an active jazz guitarist and has been making a name for himself on the international scene. In 1963, he began his professional career playing the Frankie Laine show in Las Vegas. From 1968 to 1970, Curt played shows in Hawaii including Teresa Brewer, Tony Martin and a televised appearance with the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra. From 1970 to 1972, he was the leader of the El Paso Sheraton house band where he worked with Della Reese, Billy Eckstein, Fran Jefferies, Jerry Van Dyke, Joanne Summers, etc. From 1974 to 1978, he performed with the United States Navy Band, "The Commodores" (the official Navy jazz ensemble) in Washington, DC. While performing with this band, he was a featured soloist at the Newport Jazz Festival, the Midwest Band Convention in Chicago, and at the National Association of Jazz Educators Convention in Dallas, Texas.

(from artist's site) - Keith Watling started his musical adventures being inspired by the love of music shown to him by his parents at a young age. At the age of nine he took up the piano and learned the written language of music. In junior high school he took up the tenor saxophone and was inspired by the works of George Gershwin. The guitar came into his life when he was seventeen. Keith has studied guitar at the Wisconsin Conservatory of music where he received two scholarships. He has studied with Bill Stone, Don Linke, Paul Silbergleit Jack Grassel, Mark Davis, Berkely Fudge, and Barry Harris. He has shared the stage with The Paul Spencer Group, Larry Kozman Quintet, as well as playing lead guitarwith Mary and the Jazz guys. His recent activity includes a hammond B3 Jazz trio with the extremely talented Dan Schneck, playing Blues with Jasper Buchanan and performing many solo gigs.

Guitarist Pete Weise has had the opportunity to demonstrate his diverse performing, composing, arranging, and teaching abilities nation-wide. Weise received his B.M. in Jazz Performance in 1997 and his M.M. in Jazz Performance in 2005 from the University of North Texas and is currently a private instructor at Schaelling Music Studios in Highland Village, TX and at the Fine Arts Academy at the First Baptist Church in Keller, TX. He is also a seasoned faculty member of the renowned National Guitar Workshop, and performs with several touring Dallas-Ft. Worth area bands.

Philosophy
(from artist's site) - I believe that music is one of the most fundamentally profound and beautiful manifestations of existence that human beings experience. It unites those who speak different languages and bridges vast divides between people instantaneously like no other mechanism. In studying music from early in the Western Music tradition such as Renaissance and Baroque composers I have learned that much of what comprises our harmonic and melodic vocabulary and experience was extant long ago. In learning about jazz music, thereby studying music with elements OUTSIDE the Western musical tradition (mainly rhythmic complexity and subtlety) I began to understand how the conglomeration of cultures from the East with the West during the twentieth century has led to manners of performance that are revolutionary when compared to previous musical practices of any culture.

(from artist's site) - Mike Wheeler is a jazz guitarist from Houston. He studied in San Antonio with jazz guitarist Jackie King before going to the Berklee college of music in Boston. Mike later received a Bachelor of Music from the University of St. Thomas. After returning to the Houston area, Mike established himself in the Houston Music scene. He worked in clubs, formed jazz groups, played with most of the major orchestras and performance groups in the Houston area including the Houston Symphony Orchestra and Theater Under the Stars. Broadway show credits include “Showboat”, “Chicago”, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Fosse” and The Who’s “Tommy”. He has performed with jazz artists such as Clark Terry, Joe Williams, Bill Watrous, Tom Harrell and Arnett Cobb. He has also backed pop artists such as Willie Nelson, Charlie Pride, Andy Williams, Larry Gatlin, Robert Goulet, Engelbert Humperdink, Bob Hope and John Denver. In the Fall of 2000 he recorded and arranged a CD of popular standards with Merle Haggard. His first CD, entitled "Indian Summer", (which was produced by Willie Nelson) and his new CD "The Mike Wheeler Trio" spotlight his guitar style. He is currently instructor of guitar at the University of Houston, University of St. Thomas and San Jacinto College.

Mark Whitfield graduated from Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music in 1987 where he studied composition, arranging, film scoring and conducting as well as all styles of guitar performance. Later on that year, he returned to his native New York, and immediately began his professional career. Within a few months, he had begun to perform and record with many well-known artists including Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Smith, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Art Blakey, Jack McDuff, Betty Carter, Carmen McCrae, Dianne Reeves, Joe Williams, Cleo Laine, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, Stanley Turrentine, Clark Terry and many more.

As a youth he had a deep affinity for the blues and was drawn to the music of Rural Blues artists such as Lightning Hopkins and Big Bill Broonzy. In college, Gary's music became the major focus of his life, and when he heard the music of Thelonious Monk it was love at first sound. He enrolled at the Berklee College of Music where he began studying and transcribing Monk's music in earnest.

Soon after, my parents moved to a cute little town, Chartrettes, and then a few miles further, to Fontainebleau. I started classical piano at the age of 4, following my mumís path. In New York he composed and performed original music for acoustic guitar. Since moving to Oregon, Anson has turned his focus to jazz, and he has performed throughout the United States. He has worked with Nancy King, Glen Moore, Jay Collins, Ron Steen, and many others. In addition to his jazz playing, his acoustic guitar compositions and his poetry have been set to modern dance. He has taught at numerous schools including New York University, Pacific University, and Portland Community College. Anson is an endorsing artist for Hofner guitars.
