Wolf Marshall is a unique hybrid. He is internationally acclaimed as both a guitarist and a celebrity educator. Through his many products, Wolf has gained an enormous worldwide following and status usually accorded only to "famed players" in "name bands," and has been listened to on his releases by more aspiring fretboard enthusiasts than most so-called guitar heroes.

Pat Martino

www.patmartino.com | AMG

When the anesthesia wore off, Pat Martino looked up hazily at his parents and his doctors. and tried to piece together any memory of his life.

One of the greatest guitarists in jazz. Martino had suffered a severe brain aneurysm and underwent surgery after being told that his condition could be terminal. After his operations he could remember almost nothing. He barely recognized his parents. and had no memory of his guitar or his career. He remembers feeling as if he had been "dropped cold, empty, neutral, cleansed...naked."

Artist Info

(from artist's site) - I like to I think of myself as an extremely versatile guitarist. I first got interested in music when I was 14 years old. I had a good friend by the name of Jimmy Fisher who played the guitar. He suggested I buy a Bass Guitar so that I could join his band so I did. I played Bass for a short time and then switched to the Drums. All through my high school years I had mainly played the Drums. Although I was never that good, playing the drums was my life until one day when my friend Chuck asked me to go to a concert to see Joe Satriani. At the time I had never heard of Joe Satriani or had heard any of his music. The night of the concert came and I was so blown away by Satriani's guitar playing I sold my drums the next day and bought a guitar. I became obsessed with the guitar right away and it just took over my life!

Scott McDevitt

www.scottmcdevitt.com

Scott McDevitt was born just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1972.He grew up in Malvern, PA and attended Penn State University at the age of eighteen.

After graduating with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1995, Scott moved west to Portland, Oregon to seek a new way of life. He worked as a Geotechnical (Soil) Engineer in Portland for seven years, obtaining a professional engineering license and a Masters Degree.

Scott began playing guitar at the age of 15, concentrating on 60's and 70's rock and folk music. In college he helped form and played lead guitar in the Greenfield County Fair, which covered bands like the Grateful Dead and Rolling Stones. During this time, he was introduced to the music of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Charlie Parker. This sparked a taste for jazz that flourished and developed over the following years. Looking for a new challenge, Scott began to study jazz guitar in his free time with some private teachers in the Portland area. He found that learning the jazz language was not a part time endeavor. In 2002, he left his engineering job to formally study jazz at Portland State University under pianist Darrell Grant and guitarist Jerry Hahn.

In 2004, Scott left PSU with a better understanding of music and a firm jazz foundation. He helped form two groups, the High Tone Jazz Guitar Duo, and the Urban Quartet, which currently perform regularly at clubs, restaurants, and private parties around the Portland area. In addition to his performance schedule, Scott also teaches private guitar lessons at Artihoke Music in Portland.

Pat Metheny
( 1954 - )

information-lite.png Info click here to view more info

Pat Metheny was born in Kansas City on August 12, 1954 into a musical family. Starting on trumpet at the age of 8, Metheny switched to guitar at age 12. By the age of 15, he was working regularly with the best jazz musicians in Kansas City, receiving valuable on-the-bandstand experience at an unusually young age. Metheny first burst onto the international jazz scene in 1974. Over the course of his three-year stint with vibraphone great Gary Burton, the young Missouri native already displayed his soon-to-become trademarked playing style, which blended the loose and flexible articulation customarily reserved for horn players with an advanced rhythmic and harmonic sensibility - a way of playing and improvising that was modern in conception but grounded deeply in the jazz tradition of melody, swing, and the blues. With the release of his first album, Bright Size Life (1975), he reinvented the traditional "jazz guitar" sound for a new generation of players. Throughout his career, Pat Metheny has continued to re-define the genre by utilizing new technology and constantly working to evolve the improvisational and sonic potential of his instrument.
