Al Caiola's Tuff Guitar album was one of my favorite albums as a kid back in the late 60's when I first got into guitar. I would love to record my versions of these songs.
Here are a few of the available Al Caiola CDs. I wore out his Tuff Guitar album as a kid. I have two.

Charles Chapman is a Professor in the Guitar Department at Berklee College of Music where he has taught since 1972. He is a versatile jazz guitarist with extensive performing and recording experience. Charles holds a Bachelors degree from Berklee College and a Masters of Education from Cambridge College. He performed four tunes on Mel Bay’s compilation CD “Anthology of Jazz Guitar Solos”, all tracks on the CD that accompanies the text “Guitar Solos” by George Van Eps (Mel Bay Pub.). Two tracks on the “Just Jazz Guitar” CD (JJG magazine) and recorded all three CD’s included with the very popular Modern Method Guitar Series by William Leavitt (Berklee Press Pub). His most recent recording is a solo CD titled: Come Sunset. Charles has published eight texts with Mel Bay and two with Miller Freeman Publishing and now performs on a regular basis at Guitar Shows and jazz festivals internationally. As a music journalist he has interviewed many of the most prominent guitarists in the field and is a frequent contributor to Guitar Player, Guitar Shop, Acoustic Guitar, Frontline, 20th Century Guitar and Just Jazz Guitar magazines with over 400 published articles and reviews.
Charles has appeared in concert with such luminaries: Martin Taylor, Kenny Burrell, Joe Negri Jimmy Bruno, Frank Vignola, John Pisano, Ted Greene, Carol Kaye, Jerry Jemmott and Dwane Dolphin.

Andrew Cheshire is one of a (regretfully) not-so-endangered species: the undervalued contemporary jazz musician. His music defies easy categorization; while he's performed and/or recorded with top-flight bebop musicians like Marvin "Smitty" Smith and Kenny Barron, he's also comfortable playing in free contexts with such uncompromising avant-gardists as drummer Jay Rosen and Cecil Taylor-sideman Dominic Duval. Cheshire's long, lissome improvised melodies float in and out of time, yet he's possessed with a firm, aggressive touch and profound sense of swing that serves him well in any context. Cheshire is not a "lick" or pattern-based player so much as he is an inventive and spontaneous melodicist.
What is perhaps most impressive about Cheshire is that he is entirely self-taught -- although on closer examination that might well explain the freshness and originality of his approach. The fact that he's not more well-known says much about the sad state of the jazz business at the end of the '90s. Cheshire was raised on Long Island. He began playing the guitar at age ten. At 17, he moved to Brooklyn by himself. There his music education was furthered by listening to records and attending jam sessions at jazz clubs in and around New York City. In addition to those musicians already mentioned, Cheshire has played with Walter Perkins, Don Friedman, Joey Baron, and Ron McClure, among others of note. Cheshire is the founder of his own record label, Joule, for which he has recorded several albums; his 1998 release Another View, was named to year-end Top Ten lists in Jazziz and Cadence magazines. Cheshire now lives in eastern Pennsylvania. In addition to making music, Cheshire is also an accomplished poet and writer on jazz.
Charlie Christian was born in Bonham, Texas, USA but his family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA when he was a small child. Both of his parents were musicians and he had two brothers, Edward, born 1906 and Clarence, born 1911 who were both musicians, all taught music by their father, Clarence Henry Christian. The elder Christian was struck blind by fever and in order to support the family he and the boys would work as buskers, on what the Christian's called "busts." He would have them lead him into the better neighborhoods where they would perform for cash or goods. When Charles was old enough to go along he first entertained by dancing. Later he would learn guitar, and inherited his father's instruments after his death when Charles, as the family called him, was 12. He attended Douglass School in Oklahoma City, and was further encouraged in music by instructor Zelia Breaux. Charles wanted to play tenor saxophone in the school band, but she insisted he try trumpet instead. After learning you get a disfigured upper lip from playing trumpet, he quit, and pursued his interest in baseball, at which he excelled. Clarence Christian told Charlie Christian biographer Craig McKinney in an interview in 1978 that in the 1920's and 30's Edward Christian led a band in Oklahoma City as a pianist and had a shaky relationship with trumpeter James Simpson. After a rivalry with a certain girl, Simpson had the urge to get even with the egotistical Christian. Around 1931, he took guitarist "Bigfoot" Ralph Hamilton and began secretly schooling the younger Charles on jazz. They taught him to solo on three songs, "Rose Room," "Tea for Two," and "Sweet Georgia Brown." When the time was right they took him out to one of the many after hours jam sessions along "Deep Deuce," Northeast Second Street in Oklahoma City.
Here are a few of the available Charlie Christen CDs.
Amazon.com When Benny Goodman hired Charlie Christian in 1939, he of course had no way of knowing that the innovative young electric guitarist would die three years later of TB. That explains why during his tenure with Goodman's band Christian recorded only a handful of studio recordings. Luckily, dozens of... Read more

Since he joined the Mel Bay Publications, Inc. team as Senior Music Editor and advisor to Product Development in 2001, Corey Christiansen has over forty publications with Mel Bay and has conducted countless guitar clinics and concerts across the country and beyond. This highly productive output may sound extraordinary, but it is no accident that he plays and writes with such facility. Corey began playing the guitar at the age of five and has been perfecting his technique ever since.
After growing up in a musically driven family with excellent instruction from his father, Mel Bay author and Utah State University professor Mike Christiansen, Corey continued his passion for playing the guitar at Utah State University were he received his Bachelor's Degree and many honors and awards including the Outstanding Music Student Award and Outstanding Guitarist Award. Seeking a Master's Degree in Jazz Performance, Corey sought out renowned jazz guitar educator Jack Petersen and began his studies as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of South Florida. After receiving his Master's Degree in 1999, Corey took the place of retired Jack Petersen and became the adjunct guitar instructor at USF. In this position Corey became well versed in the abilities and needs of jazz guitar students and ensembles.
