I've been asked more than a few times to reccommend which books to start with. This can best be addressed by a series of questions that I would typically ask.
This is usually followed by me determining what level are you at in you development? This can vary depending on where you are at in your chord development, single note playing, knowledge of music theory, etc...
You can start by taking an inventory or survey of you skills on guitar or ukulele. This will help in developing a plan for learning new stuff on your instrument or even general music.
